JROTC Pathway Overview:
In DoDEA's National Security Pathway, students are enrolled in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC). JROTC is a program that teaches students character education, student achievement, wellness, leadership, and diversity. JROTC cadets act with integrity and personal accountability as they lead others to succeed in a diverse and global workforce; engage in civic and social concerns in the community, government, and society; make decisions that promote positive social, emotional, and physical health; value the role of the military and other service; and graduate prepared to excel in post-secondary options and career pathways.
** Completing 3 semesters of JROTC (LET 1A/1B/2A) will provide the student with the Health and PE requirement for graduation.
JROTC- Year One
Leadership and Education Training (LET) 1A consists of the Foundations of Army JROTC; American Military Traditions, Customs and Courtesies; Personal Appearance and Uniform Wear; Basic Leadership Theory and Application; Study Skills; Communication Skills; Conflict Resolution; Drill and Inspections; and Rifle Marksmanship. There are also classes on "financial fitness" provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum. Leadership and Education Training (LET) 1B consists of Wellness and Fitness, First Aid; Map Reading; an extensive section on the foundations of our constitutional government; and Rifle Marksmanship. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum.
JROTC- Year Two
Leadership and Education Training (LET) 2A consists of Basic Command and Staff Principles; Leadership Strategies; Planning Skills; Managing Conflict; Career Planning; Social Responsibility; and Rifle Marksmanship. There are also classes on "financial fitness" provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum. Leadership and Education Training (LET) 2B consist of classes on; Service to the Nation; Advanced Leadership Principles; Teaching Skills; and Rifle Marksmanship. There are also classes on "financial fitness" provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum.
JROTC- Year Three
Leadership and Education Training 3A consists of Decision Making and Problem Solving; Staff Procedures; Advanced Map Reading and Land Navigation; Communications in Groups; Understand and protection Your Constitutional Rights; Geography; and Rifle Marksmanship. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum. Leadership and Education Training (LET) 3B consists of Leading Others; Teaching Skills; Geography; Current Constitutional Issues; the Department of Defense; and Rifle Marksmanship. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum.
JROTC- Year Four
Consist of Staff Principles; Historical Case Studies; Substance Abuse Issues; Advance Land Navigation; and Writing Skills; Current Constitutional Issues; and Rifle Marksmanship. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum. Leadership and Education Training (LET) 8 consist of Staff Principles; Historical Case Studies; Advanced Teaching Techniques; Advance Land Navigation; Current Constitutional Issues; and Rifle Marksmanship. In addition to these core classes there are weekly physical training classes. Each semester concludes with a service learning project that provides a practical exercise for the application of the leadership curriculum.
JROTC Extracurriculars
JROTC Extra-curricular activities consist of Raiders (Competitive ultra-sport competitions - WCHS JROTC compete at the Regional, State and National levels), Competition Drill and Color Guard (Compete at Regional and State levels), Rifle Team (Sporter and Precision shooting), JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl Teams (Regional and National competitions), Honor Guard, support for community and veteran events throughout the year.
